An ideal combination of discrete equalization controls combined with Audio Control’s unique OEM integration circuitry, the LCQ-1 maximizes the performance of factory installed audio systems. The LCQ-1 allows us to tune the audio systems and receive truly amazing sound quality. The LCQ1 is a powerful six-channel signal processor that provides a gateway between factory installed source units and after-market amplifiers. This was made possible by installing an Audio Control LCQ1 interface to the factory system. We knew we could achieve our goals without eliminating the factory Sync package and all other associated features. There was absolutely no reason to replace the radio in the dash. Since this was a Platinum Series F150, it came with the Ford Sync system and navigation. To solve this, we installed Hushmat Ultra Damping Padding in all four doors. A small rattle can make that really nice speaker completely lose it’s appeal. One issue that needs to be addressed in any type of vehicle where we install a nice stereo is the vibrations in the doors. Once the truck was all finished you would never have known the speakers had been touched just by looking at it. As you can see in the attached photos of the install, the tweeters and woofers fit in the original locations. We were looking for something that could handle real power and would deliver, and the C5’s exceeded expectations as usual. The speakers deliver a crisp clear sound even at much higher volume levels. This line of speakers from JL Audio is a force to be reckoned with. We installed JL C5 component speakers in the front factory locations, and C5 coax speakers in the rear. The first thing that we knew needed to be done was to install a better quality speaker package. We were honored to have the ability to bring the stereo of one such truck to a whole new level for a good customer of ours. Even with the upgraded factory Sony package, the stereo doesn’t give the “ Platinum” name any justice. The one big feature missing… is a good sounding stereo. You could just try the front first and disconnect the center and see if it sounds better or worse with it, just as a starting point.A 2011 F150 Platinum edition comes with more options than you might think, for a pickup truck. You have separates up front, coax in the rear doors, and a center. If you want a little increase in volume with the stock amp, look into something with a high sensitivity rating (92+ db). Tksi liked the sound of morels off my older B&O system. I don't want to break the bank but if some better speakers alone can provide overall better sound without other mods like new sub(s) etc I will likely go for it. Was there a marked improvement or sort of the same sound generally. I realize that my goal of keeping stuff mostly stock isn't what everyone is shooting for, but I imagine that there are at least some folks, particularly with hybrids, who are nervous about messing with the electrical system. Crutchfield sells in-line high pass filters, and that's my fall back solution, but if I can set it up in the factory head unit DSP then I can avoid turning the low frequency wattage headed for the woofers into heat.īass takes a LOT of wattage to push, and if you can offload it from your woofers using an independent powered sub, then the wattage that your head unit can push to the woofers goes a lot farther. That would hopefully allow me to just replace the stock speakers, avoid an amp, AND use the juice that is no longer trying to push bass from the woofers to improve response in the mids. what a garden variety aftermarket head unit could do in 2003). My goal is to keep at this and eventually aim for basic frequency cutoff behavior for the sub and other speakers (i.e. Too much available power isn't really a problem per se, but as yet I don't know if we have the tools to modify the DSP and cutoffs more than the three tone and balance/fade slider bars. I was afraid that it would be too quiet, but it turns out that the sub is if anything too loud. I just have to figure out how to use that signal for an aftermarket option, then run a thicker power wire from the battery.FYI, I wound up stacking discounts and got the installed price for the Ford/Kicker combo down to about $1100 total. We’ll I have the DSP activated and the signal wires ran from the ACM already.
